Yushinkan (Private Villa)

Designed and supervised by Tsuneji Ueda, who practiced Mingei a unique style of Japanese folk art founded by Muneyoshi Yanagi, "Yushinkan" was completed in 1971 after three years of construction. We hope you will spend a blissful time in this historical work of art as a private villa where you can smell the fragrance of wood while enjoying selections of traditional folk art during your stay. Yushinkan is a place where you can truly experience and appreciate the beauty of Japanese architecture and craftsmanship.

The annex (dining room, Jacuzzi and swimming pool) is constructed using the CLT construction method in consideration of the protection and restoration of Japan's forest resources and the natural environment. It is designed with Sustainable

Yushinkan (Private Villa)

Designed and supervised by Tsuneji Ueda, whose work is descended from the folk art of Muneyoshi Yanagi. Woodworker Tatsuaki Kuroda (a living national treasure) described “Yushinkan” as "the best construction that gives the impression of wood." The rare timber used in “Yushinkan” is no longer available today, making this private villa one of a kind. Surrounded by natural indigo-dyed curtains by Motohiko Katano and hanging scrolls by Shiko Munakata, this establishment was named "Yushinkan" by Mitsugi Shimamoto, a folk art user who enjoyed "endless joy of life" surrounded by the healthy and beautiful works of a selﬂess craftsman.

In consideration of the protection and restoration of Japan's forest resources and the natural environment, the annex was constructed usingCross Laminated Timber (CLT), and the furniture is made of laminated bamboo. The Kurashiki TEORI dining room furniture allows guests to enjoy meals while feeling the open blue sky and the green garden. The Jacuzzi and private pool provides a special and relaxing time, day and night, exclusive to one couple per day.
